A LITTLE MORE KNOW-HOW.
SocialRoster vs Buffer for a batch of finished videos
Compare SocialRoster’s finished-video batch workflow with Buffer’s CSV importer, queue and plans. Includes source-checked limits and a practical trial checklist.
Current product: YouTube-only. New plans support 2 or 6 YouTube channels at $19.99 or $29.99 per month. Older provider and pricing references below are retained for legacy customers, not new connection offers. Existing subscriptions and scheduled posts are preserved. Current plans and fair use.

TikTok status: Coming soon. TikTok scheduling and publishing are coming soon. Your existing posts, drafts and connection are kept. The TikTok guidance in this guide is general preparation advice, not an available SocialRoster publishing flow. For YouTube, check account permissions and publishing status before scheduling.
If your starting point is a folder of finished clips, compare how each tool gets those files into a reviewed schedule. SocialRoster offers direct video import and batch interval scheduling. Buffer supports video scheduling, but its documented CSV bulk importer currently handles text and single-image posts rather than videos. That specific workflow difference is worth testing before you switch.
Published by SocialRoster. Competitor facts were checked against Buffer’s official documentation on October 19, 2026. The comparison below is documentation-based; it does not claim measured speed, reliability or performance advantages.
The important distinction: bulk video files versus CSV rows
Buffer’s bulk-upload help describes a channel-specific CSV template. It allows up to 10 posts per channel per upload on Free, subject to available queue space, or 100 on paid plans. The documented importer excludes video, carousel and YouTube uploads. Optional posting times can be supplied in the CSV; without them, posts use available queue slots. For video posts, Buffer directs users to its composer. See source 1.
SocialRoster’s Content Library imports finished videos from your device and currently holds up to 50 videos total in that browser. Select the clips, choose the first post time and a preset or custom interval, then inspect the sequence. This distinction concerns the entry point for a batch. It does not mean Buffer lacks video publishing or that every imported SocialRoster video is automatically ready to publish.
Start your evaluation with the assets you actually have. A spreadsheet of captions and image links is a different job from a folder of MP4 clips. Counting both products’ “bulk” features without checking the accepted media can hide the work you still need to do.
What SocialRoster’s video workflow includes
- A local video library with capacity for 50 videos, plus caption and hashtag preparation.
- Batch spacing with presets or custom intervals from 1 minute to 30 days, in whole-minute increments, plus individual post times.
- Calendar review for available Instagram, YouTube and Facebook video destinations. TikTok scheduling is Coming soon.
- An overnight setting that moves calculated times before 06:00 to 06:00, rather than a custom daily publishing window.
Use separate post entries when you need different copy or times for different destinations. Check each connected account before relying on automatic publishing. Required permissions, live integrations and provider limits still apply. TikTok connecting, scheduling and publishing are currently unavailable; legacy review records do not enable them.
Pricing: compare the units before the totals
SocialRoster’s Social Scheduler is $19.99 per month for up to 200 scheduled posts per billing month. Unlimited is $39.99 per month with no SocialRoster monthly scheduling cap; network and API limits remain. Eligible new subscribers get a 3-day trial requiring a card. The selected plan charges automatically afterward unless canceled before the trial ends.
Buffer’s official plan guide lists Essentials at $6 per channel per month and Team at $12 per channel per month for the first ten channels. Essentials has one user; Team has unlimited users. Its Free plan allows three channels and ten scheduled posts per channel. Larger account counts use tiered rates, and annual billing has different pricing. See source 2.
Those limits measure different things. Buffer describes its free queue limit as the number scheduled at one time, with space available again after a post publishes. SocialRoster’s Scheduler allowance is per billing month. Buffer’s paid scheduling is described as unlimited, subject to its fair-use policy. Check the live pages before purchasing. See source 3.
For an illustration using the monthly rates above, two Buffer Essentials channels cost $12 per month and four cost $24. These are arithmetic examples before applicable taxes or other charges, not equivalent-feature bundles. SocialRoster’s $19.99 plan has its own monthly post allowance and publishing requirements. A lower sticker price is not enough if the plan does not support your actual job.
Which requirements should decide the choice?
Choose the evaluation around the part of the process you repeat most. If you already have finished video files and want to arrange a batch at regular intervals, test that path in SocialRoster. If you need channels, content formats or collaboration beyond your SocialRoster workflow, list those requirements before making a decision.
Buffer’s current plans include a wider set of channel integrations; its Team plan lists approvals and access controls, while its paid plans include advanced analytics. Verify the exact channels and features you need on the live pricing page. See source 3. Do not assume those capabilities have equivalents in SocialRoster just because both products show a calendar.
Run a five-clip evaluation
- Pick five representative clips with rights cleared. Include one that needs different wording for two destinations and one with a fixed publication time.
- Write the desired outcome before opening either product: destinations, captions, times, reviewer and what would count as a successful publish.
- Check account eligibility and connections, then note every required import, caption, review and scheduling step. Separate one-time setup from work repeated for every batch.
- Review the full calendar and complete the applicable platform consent steps. Record any unsupported requirement or manual work.
- Verify the first publishing outcome. Keep one active publishing owner for each clip and destination, so the evaluation does not create duplicate posts.
This small test will tell you more about fit than a generic feature checklist. Record the steps and any friction you encounter; do not assume a saved item proves delivery or that a single successful test establishes long-term reliability.
When to keep your existing setup
Switching is unnecessary if your current process already handles your volume and must-have features comfortably. You can also separate editing, planning and reporting from publishing, as long as ownership is clear. If you use two scheduling tools during a trial, record exactly which posts belong to each and check for overlap before their scheduled times.
SocialRoster is a paid option for finished-video scheduling. It is worth evaluating for that workflow, with its limits and trial terms visible. Buffer may be the better fit when your required channels, formats or team workflow point there. Use the sources and the five-clip test to make the decision on your own content.
Questions
- Can Buffer schedule videos?
- Yes. The limitation discussed here is the documented CSV bulk importer. Buffer’s help directs video posts to its composer; it does not say Buffer lacks video scheduling.
- Is SocialRoster a free Buffer alternative?
- No. SocialRoster has paid monthly plans and a 3-day trial for eligible new subscribers that requires a card and converts to the chosen paid plan unless canceled in time.
- Which plan is cheaper?
- It depends on the connected channels, required features and scheduling volume. Compare current monthly or annual terms on the same basis and include the limits that apply to your workflow.
