A LITTLE MORE KNOW-HOW.
Preparing videos for TikTok scheduling
Prepare TikTok video files, captions and disclosure checks for a separate supported publishing workflow. TikTok connecting, scheduling and publishing in SocialRoster are Coming soon.
Current product: YouTube-only. New plans support 2 or 6 YouTube channels at $19.99 or $29.99 per month. Older provider and pricing references below are retained for legacy customers, not new connection offers. Existing subscriptions and scheduled posts are preserved. Current plans and fair use.

TikTok status: Coming soon. TikTok scheduling and publishing are coming soon. Your existing posts, drafts and connection are kept. The TikTok guidance in this guide is general preparation advice, not an available SocialRoster publishing flow. For YouTube, check account permissions and publishing status before scheduling.
Most TikTok scheduling problems are file problems that were invisible until the moment of publishing. The fix is to do the checking while you still have the editing project open, rather than at the point where the only option is to pull the post.
Confirm the current specifications first
Resolution, duration, file size and codec limits change, and they can differ between uploading in the app and publishing through the developer API. Before a batch, spend two minutes on TikTok's current creator help pages and, if you publish programmatically, its developer documentation. Treat any number in an article — including this one — as a starting point to verify, not a rule.
As a general shape, short-form vertical video at a 9:16 aspect ratio with H.264 video and AAC audio in an MP4 container is the least surprising combination. If your export deviates from that, test one file end to end before committing a batch to it.
Export settings worth fixing once
- Aspect ratio: 9:16 full frame. Letterboxed 16:9 content inside a vertical frame reads as repurposed and wastes most of the screen.
- Frame rate: match your source. Converting 30 to 60 adds nothing; converting 60 to 30 on motion-heavy footage can look worse than leaving it.
- Audio: normalise levels across the batch. Inconsistent loudness between consecutive posts is more noticeable than any single post being slightly quiet.
- Bitrate: high enough that motion does not smear. Compression artefacts survive the platform's own re-encode and get worse, not better.
- Safe margins: keep text and key subjects away from the extreme edges, since interface elements overlay the frame during playback.
On-screen text and captions
Burned-in captions are not optional for most short-form video, because a large share of viewing happens without sound. Burn them in during editing rather than relying on automatic captioning you cannot preview, and read them back once at full speed — timing errors are much easier to see than to catch by reasoning.
Keep the first two seconds free of dense text. That is the window in which someone decides whether to keep watching, and a wall of words competes with the thing you actually want them to see.
AI-generated content disclosure
If a video is generated or significantly modified by AI, it needs to be disclosed. TikTok provides labelling controls for this, and publishing tools may expose an equivalent flag on the post. Set the flag when you create the post, not after — a disclosure applied late is a correction, and corrections are visible.
Metadata, captions and links
- Write the caption for the specific video rather than the batch. A caption that could describe any of forty clips describes none of them.
- Keep hashtags relevant and few. Long tag lists dilute meaning and can look automated.
- Check spelling in the caption before scheduling. Editing a caption after publishing is possible in some places and not others, and an edit can reset engagement signals.
- Confirm any claim in the caption is one you can support. Scheduled posts publish without a human present to reconsider.
Before the file enters the queue
- Play the export in full, once, at normal speed. This single habit catches the majority of embarrassing mistakes.
- Confirm the file is the final version, not a proxy or a draft export.
- Check that it is not already in your library. Duplicate uploads become duplicate posts, which platforms treat unfavourably.
- Make sure you have the rights to the music and footage. Scheduled publishing does not pause for a rights question.
What scheduling can and cannot do for you
A scheduler can hold your files, plan the order, space the posts and keep the queue visible. Publishing to TikTok automatically is a separate capability: it requires a connected TikTok account, a developer application with the right scopes, and approval from TikTok for the permissions your app requests. SocialRoster’s TikTok connection, scheduling and publishing are currently Coming soon. Keep preparation in a separate document or supported tool; SocialRoster does not provide manual-reminder publishing.
Troubleshooting
- The file is rejected on import: the container or codec is unsupported. Re-export as MP4 with H.264 and AAC and try again.
- Video looks soft after publishing: the platform re-encodes uploads. Start from a higher-bitrate export and avoid repeated re-encoding.
- Captions are cut off: text sits too close to the frame edge, or interface overlays cover it. Rebuild with wider safe margins.
- Audio is out of sync: usually a variable frame rate source. Re-export at a constant frame rate.
- Upload fails part-way: a large file over an unstable connection. Retry on a stable network, and check whether the post was partially created before retrying so you do not duplicate it.
- A post publishes but the disclosure flag is missing: it was added after creation. Check the flag at creation time in future batches.
Build the checklist into the export step
The most reliable version of this process is not a document you consult but an export preset and a folder convention you use every time. Save the preset once, name the folder after the batch, and run the playback check as the last step before the folder is considered finished. Everything downstream gets easier.
Questions
- Does a scheduler publish to TikTok on its own?
- Not currently in SocialRoster. TikTok connecting, scheduling and publishing are Coming soon. Use a native or other supported tool if you need TikTok publishing now, and verify its current requirements.
- Should AI-generated video be labelled?
- Yes. Set the AI-generated content flag when you create the post and check the platform's current labelling requirements, since policies are updated regularly.
